Tarte Shape Tape Foundation | Not Brown Skin Friendly?

The Tarte Shape Tape foundation has probably been the most talked about product in the beauty industry and I can't say it is in a positive way...

This foundation had probably answered every person's prayer to have a foundation to match the most famous concealer used and loved by everyone, the shape tape concealer. Even though I hadn't used the shape tape concealer I knew the foundation was going to be something different in my current makeup collection. I remember scrolling through Twitter one day, and I saw a post by Trendmood showing 15 swatches of the much-anticipated foundation and thought to myself where are the rest of the shades since there were only 3 tan-deeper shades.

I decided to research into the launch and found some images on a website showing that there were 15 shades released from Tarte for hydrating and matte each. I saw the swatches and was puzzled why there were so many light shades. I thought to myself, maybe they only showed some of the swatches so people could get a general idea of the shades? No. I was shocked to later find out that these were the only shades that were going to be released and this was going to be the shades launched.

When the foundation launched on the Tarte website, I hoped that the shades shown online were not true and that there would be more foundation shades online. I was wrong. The same exact 15 shades were launched by Tarte and I felt like I wasn't living in the 21st century. My feelings were shocked/ disappointed and let down by an international brand like Tarte who should cater to every single shade on this earth.

Even though I wasn't compelled into buying the product, I knew I wanted to use my voice as a beauty/fashion blogger and Youtuber and say what I had to say about the product. Tarte is a brand that needs to know that their consumers come from ALL different skin tones and we all having the same level of excitement for a foundation launch.

As frustrated as I was, I knew I had to put the foundation to the test for those who were thinking of purchasing it but I don't blame you for not spending your money on the foundation.

I decided to go for the hydrating foundation instead of the matte and so I put it to the test...

This foundation priced at £35.00 claims to give a luminous, hydrated finish to the skin with the same coverage as the well-known shape tape concealer. I got the shade medium-tan honey which I thought was the closest match out of the limited shade range. The packaging is the same as the concealer which I guess makes sense to keep the packing the same.

 (NO FLASH)
The foundation has the same huge applicator as its matching concealer however it didn't have a thick consistency as the concealer. As you can see, the claim that the foundation is hydrating is definitely true and left my skin feeling like skin and not powdery which I liked. However, the foundation was definitely NOT full coverage as it claimed on the bottle which was a let down considering it's something claimed. The product blended really well with my beauty blender even if it was slightly lighter than what I would have wanted. This product also contains collagen and hyaluronic acid which helps plump the skin and helps retain moisture in the skin.
 (WITH FLASH)
There was no flashback seen however my skin looked really dewy, maybe more than my usual liking especially my T-zone and this was taken after 3 hours which knocks their 12-hour claim. I felt like I had to touch up my skin with a blotting powder to reduce the shiny effect on my skin. You can definitely see that this is not a full coverage foundation but is a light to medium coverage but I liked how it still looked like skin.

So my final verdict? After wearing it for 6 hours I felt like I had to touch up my skin with powder and I've got dry-combination skin so this foundation will not work for someone with oily skin. The matte foundation will be perfect for someone with oily skin and with the same coverage and the concealer. Overall, I liked how easy it was to apply, no flashback and the dewy look it gave (until 6 hours). The cons are the limited shade range and the wearing power.

I hope Tarte realise that their consumers include tan-deeper shades and that inclusion matters.

January Blues

Hello beautiful people!

January can sometimes leave us feeling a little run down, we get back to the real world and we get into that same schedule every day. Anyone else feel like January was a trial month? I definitely feel like it was and I want to plan more exciting content for my blog for the upcoming months. The weather isn't looking great either, those long, bleak days and summer seem forever away but I thought I would update you all on my current favourite outfit also the outfit I never take off…

I always say invest in a good coat because it'll last you a few years and this coat ticked all the boxes for me. It has to make a statement, a staple piece which usually inspires an outfit, and the rest always just falls into place. As you guys may have noticed tailored, longline jackets are in right now.  I saw this online whilst browsing through Miss Selfridge, I couldn't resist adding this steal to my basket.

It’s literally the perfect one for me, the colour, the cut, and the length. This coat also didn't have a hefty price tag either and is a  great high street alternative to the tailored designer coats I have seen online. The grey compliments the khaki knit sweater and the fit of the coat makes the whole outfit well put together but still keeps you nice and warm.

I’ve been pairing it with my New Look high-waisted black jeans (also obsessed), a cable knit jumper (this one’s from ISAWITFIRST) and any one of my black boots (yes, I own more than a few pairs – oops!), these ones being from New Look (heeled, yet comfortable). This jumper is in a cropped style and I love the roll neck which keeps you warm without compromising style.

I treated myself to a dainty PANDORA ring that I haven't taken off since I bought it. It is so elegant and dainty that I literally wear it with any and every outfit, just to add a little something!

So basically, I’ll be wearing this outfit on repeat for the rest of the season, as its such an easy throw-on outfit for them gloomy days… maybe add a good old odd bobble hat or scarf on for those extra chilly days.

So that's it for today folks! I will be back with more content.
Stay tuned,

Davina

CELEBRATING ONE YEAR OF BLOGGING

Hello, my lovelies! Happy New Year to you all!

I just want to take a moment to thank you all for your incredible support on the blog!

It's been a whole 365 days since I decided to take the leap and start my own blog (eeek!). At the time I was unsure about the feedback I would receive or if anyone would be interested in what I had to say. I wasn't worried about the numbers or how many Instagram followers I had because quantity doesn't matter and I was focussed on putting out quality content that I know people would want to read. Now looking back, I'm so happy that I put my doubts behinds and started what I was passionate about. Not only was able to live what I love but the response I've had from you lovely people has been incredible and keeps me going! I never thought in a million years that I would be able to do what I enjoy and the compliments I get from you guys drives me further to put out great content.

I know my blog is a foetus compared to other bloggers who have done this for a very long time but I hope reading my content gets you inspired to not listen to the haters and do what drives you. As well as inspiring others, the personal growth from starting a blog has changed me for a better person. Not only am I incredibly happy professionally, but also personally which is so important.
This past year has given me a new level of confidence, try new things, never give up and never worry about what people are going to say! I hope that 2018 is a successful year for all of us. If I can give advice to you right now it would be, just keep doing what you love, don't be afraid of making mistakes and don't give up!

I'm a believer in great things take time so I look forward to the new opportunities 2018 brings. Also, I love it when I get feedback from you guys so if you want me to do a  fashion lookbook over on my Youtube channel or on here then leave me a comment. Something you may not know is that I've graduated the end of last year which means that I have more time to focus on putting out great content.

A few thank-you's
When I started a blog, with no doubt I knew Pipdig was the platform with an amazing team who have patiently answered my emails when I have been frustrated, to say the least! I want to also thank my family who have supported me as well as keeping me grounded. My bunch of best friends who are my support system when I have those 'down' days and know how much their thoughts mean to me. Finally, I want to thank you guys, I started this journey a year ago to do what I love but having such lovely supporters/readers gives me another reason to continue to do what I love to do!

Thank you to everyone for joining me on this crazy journey and I can't wait for you guys to see the content I have for the new year! xx
